Fire safety investigations are conducted to determine the nature and cause behind a fire and to establish the rightful claim for the person/s involved in the fire.t. Fire investigators, the personnel responsible for carrying out fire investigations, compile data related to fire investigations to analyze the factors behind how a fire was ignited and grew.

They also investigate in order to search for possible ways to reduce damage to life and property, .find out if the fire was set intentionally and provide the data for the after-fire legal processes to commence.

The investigator has the job of processing every fire scene with still photographs and videos documenting the fire scene. The fire scene is secured throughout the time that the investigation begins, throughout the investigation, and until the scene is officially released back to the owner of the property. Thereafter, your attorney would find out the points that could make your case stronger and help you to obtain fair compensation.

The investigator goes from the area of maximum damage to the area of minimum damage after securing access to the fire and keeping every thing in place as it was after the fire occurred. Other duties of investigators are interviewing witnesses, bystanders and fire fighters who may have gone in first; maintaining a chain of evidence by preserving and collecting evidence so it is clear who handled the fire investigation; and getting the media to report on the fire by apprising it of the situation.

Later the investigator submits a report to his superior about possible fire safety hazards that he/she noticed in the fire investigation and classifies the category in which the fire fell: whether it was from arson, undetermined causes, suspicious fires, fire injuries, total loss, fires in educational or institutional occupancies etc.

Following the completion of the fire investigation, the investigator is responsible for releasing the occupancy back to the property owner. The investigator works with private investigators and other officials who can corroborate the evidence gathered or help in material tracing. The investigator’s report to the supervisor contains all the material in standard form. It is the investigator who, when asked, testifies in either a civil or criminal case, with all of his conclusions gathered. The role of the fire investigator is crucial to determine the outcome of Fire and Explosion Litigations. This makes it all the more important to select an attorney who has a reasonable amount of experience in Fire and Explosion cases and dealing with fire investigators.
