A total knee relacement surgery which could be viewed online was recently perfromed at Rush University Medical Center. Orthopedist, Richard Berger, performed the surgery which featured a knee replacement designed to fit a woman’s anatomy. The webcast was moderated by Dr. Aaron Rosenberg and Berger, Rosenberg and 12 other surgeons answered questions from Doctors and the general public which were sent in via e-mail during the broadcast.
Knee relacement have been available in various sizes, but merely using a different size doesn’t control for anatomical differences. Recent research indicates that a woman’s knee is not simply a smaller version of a man’s. There are differences in the bones, ligaments and joints and the new Gender Solutions Knee attempts to account for them.
